Lefkas

This is bordering on a trick question, IMHO; at best it could be described as a double bluff. It sounds Greek, and Greece is famous for its islands; but surely that's too obvious?

Known to the Greeks as Lefkada, but to tourists as Lefkas, it's the 14th largest of Greece's myriad islands and the fourth largest of the Ionian Islands. It's to the north of Kefalonia, and the next significant island going northwards up the Ionian coast is Corfu - about 40 miles away by sea.

According to Thomson, Lefkas's appeal lies in its "footprint–free beaches and towns that look the same as they did 100 years ago ... Lefkas is the sort of place you hear about on the grapevine rather than in the Sunday travel supplements."

I'm afraid that particular grapevine has managed to pass me by.
